CLIMATE CHANGE - Crisis Management or Preventive Maintenance?

Within the last 100 years there have been numerous debates in the public arena on climate change amongst the proponents of both majority positions. Many in the 1970's had espoused that global cooling was an emanate threat to humanity and yet more recently others pointing to the coming devastation to be wrought by global warming and the subsequent rising seas. Both positions citing the same raw data to layout their respective cases and yet remain diametrically opposed to one another. Numerous such prognostications have been previously made advancing various doom and gloom scenarios only to be proven wrong in the course of  time when the do not come to pass.

The fossil records and polar ice core samples have aided scientists in substantiating a history of previous climate change events, however there remains a fundamental lack of irrefutable empirical evidence to support one position over another.

Without incontrovertible proof linking the activities of man to a specific trend of climate change is a foolhardy pursuit at best. To conceive of and implement any plan of action that adds considerable financial impositions on; nations, industries, economies and life styles without absolute certainty is irresponsible as well as dishonest. The results of such actions may be completely devastating and possibly create or exacerbate the very problems they attempt to solve.

PREVIOUS FAILURES - Well Intended but Poorly Conceived
Since the oil embargo of 1973 we have witnessed government intervention attempting to promote conservation and alternative energy sources offering; tax incentives, rebates, as well as punitive mandates resulting with no lasting or dynamic changes. These methods have historically exacted virtually no changes in the main stream mindset.

For the most part only those with the financial means ever take advantage of these programs. Further politicians have exacerbated the situation forcing utilities providers to re-purchase excess capacity at retail power rates, consequently these added costs are passed back upon everyone. Unfortunately these poorly conceived programs and actions have placed the greatest of burdens upon the shoulders of those who can afford it least and now are compelled to pay even higher rates.

In the process of analyzing the results, we have found positives and not just negatives.

The Positives;
These programs have resulted in an influx of monies and interest periodically into the energy conservation and alternative sectors.

However the balance of this equation is a substantial amount of developmental progress and monies have been brought about by necessity due to escalating energy costs and not these 'programs' specifically.

The Negatives;
The results over the last 40 plus years have yielded a minimal impact at best despite billions of dollars spent meanwhile saddling the tax payers with costs. The peoples that really have needed the greatest help have not only been left out of the equation completely the have been harmed further saddled with these additional costs.

Globally Air and water pollution continues to exact consequences in the area of health, air and water pollution must be minimized as soon as possible. There is no question as to the devastating effects of these continued unaddressed air and water pollution issues as it relates to; economic costs, human health and longevity. Energy and water consumption demands are only continuing to increase exponentially and with these increases, decreasing water supplies will continue to exact a devastating economic blow as well as resulting in a significant loss of lives.

 'The significant problems we have cannot be solved at the same level of thinking with which we created them.'  - Albert Einstein

OUR SOLUTION - A New and Different Approach
Presently there is no incontrovertible proof as to any specific trend in climate change in general, never mind trying to link it to the activities of man, this however does not negate a need for substantive actions immediately. We none the less can and should minimize or eliminate the risk or probability of climate change by implementing robust conservation measures as well as the integration of clean alternative energy technologies.

How do we provide the leadership to enable this to become mainstream? Old habits are most difficult to change "we've always done it this way" is difficult to overcome.

So how can we motivate and influence such a desired global paradigm shift toward the permanent adaptation of conservation and alternative energies into construction and lifestyles?

Have we not learned the lessons recorded for us in history? Historically the greatest motivation or 'The Engine of Change' to implement behavioral changes has been a strong financial incentive. For any technology or methodology to become a main stream trend it is best served with solid financial viability with out molestation. Free market solutions historically have resulted with the greatest successes.

If any technology or methodology has merit it should be able to stand on its own financial viability.

We must therefore demonstrate the economic viability of a solution in such a compelling manner as to establish that the status quo is too costly to sustain going forward. Then an expedient implementation process would be enacted based upon and driven by economic necessity. - Mark Mazzola
Carbon credits, mandates, or any other forms of manipulation will never unleash the desired wave of change to the degree that economic necessity can. These methods only lead to additional debate and fail to bring about the desired effect.

We have full confidence that we possess and offer the best solutions for the complex issues facing humanity and the environment. Put us to the test!
